About Road to Reading
Dear Parents & Instructors,

This interactive site is designed as a reading fundamentals course for young learners who are just being introduced to the English language. Learners should begin with the alphabet and phonemic awareness building activities. They may then move onto the phonics section which covers letter blends, rhyming, and CVC words. The course ends with "Story Time," in which learners practically apply their reading skills with simple phonics-based stories.

Additional content and digital resources are included in each section. Your reader can continue to reinforce their skills with these fun and engaging platforms and worksheets. Please find the final evaluation rubric in the "Phonics" section in order to assess and track your young learner's progress.

Overview & Introduction​
Learning Objectives
The Road to Reading has been created to introduce young ESL learners to the foundational components of reading. Beginning literacy is built on the attainment of (1) phonological awareness and (2) phonics. This mini online course is built on these learning objectives, as well as on their practical application within reading. The three course modules are as follows:

Phonological Awareness: letter-sound correspondence

Phonics: rhyming & separating onset and rhyme (e.g. c-at)

Story Time: reading stories with the element of rhyme to reinforce phonological awareness and phonics skills
Meet The Creator
Michelle Krolicki
Hello friends! I have been working with primary school-aged children for the past 7 years. I have worked as a primary school educator, as an online ESL instructor, and as a caretaker. I am passionate about the development of reading skills, and I enjoy teaching English learners their first words.

I currently live in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I have lived and worked in Vietnam for over 2 years. I enjoy experiencing new cultures, learning different languages, and meeting English learners around the world. I am passionate about educating young learners to be curious and excited about learning.
